7 Exercises to develop children’s logical reasoning

The development of mathematical logical thinking is not only the basis for the construction of mathematical notions that we are so concerned with developing our little ones, but also for the process of understanding their own being, their world and their relationship as individuals. . And of course the best way to develop it is by playing!

Mathematical logical thinking is somewhat subjective. It exists differently in each of us. The child constructs it individually through reflective abstraction that arises from experiences when related to objects in the world. These experiences are organized in his mind, structuring his knowledge, which he will not forget, since it has its origin in an action lived by himself.

But what good is it? Well, to understand the relationship that has as an individual being with the rest of the world, with its environment, time, space, quantities. For the development of their reasoning and analytical and critical thinking, conflict resolution, and to face difficulties and problems.

Here are 7 exercises to develop children’s logical reasoning:

Sort by colors

With this exercise it is achieved that, by stimulating the sight, the child begins to acquire association criteria.

We will place colored paper or cardboard in four parts of the room and we will play to sort the toys by color: the red doll, on the red cardboard; the blue train, in the cardboard of the same color. Before, you should verify that the toys are of a single color or have a clearly predominant one.

A jungle

Let’s play to imitate sounds. What it is about is that the associative criteria continue to form, this time through stimulation of the ear.

We will imitate the sounds of different animals, while showing a drawing of the animal in question. Later, after imitating the sound, it will have to be our son who points out what animal it is. Let’s prepare this game beforehand, so we don’t know how to imitate an animal and, laughs!

Guess what it is

With our eyes closed, and to stimulate the sense of touch, we will make our child touch certain objects that are part of his daily life, such as balls, dolls, toys … and we will try to guess what it is about. With this guessing game, you will associate the mental image you have of each object with its shape.

Trains

In this exercise we will need colored cubes or squares. You can use the typical building set cubes or make us some out of different colored cardboard. We will play making small trains with the cubes of the same color, which we will put next to each other until forming a row. Thus they begin to classify and associate with the sense of sight.

What does it taste like?

For this game we use five glasses with different components. A sweet one, with honey and water. Another salty, with salt and water. Another acid, with lemon juice and water. Another bitter, with rowan and water. Another one without flavor, just with water. It is about distinguishing flavors.

Dress snakes

Stimulate the sense of sight. We draw a snake on a large cardboard. It consists of dressing her with other pieces of cardboard or colored paper of different shapes: triangles, squares, circles. First, we glue the pieces of the same color to the snake; then with pieces of the same shape; finally, the same size. Instead of snakes, you can make bead necklaces with a thread and crimp the pieces of cardboard or colored paper.

Mosaics

With various pieces of cardboard, or with pieces of construction sets, we will let our son play as he pleases. When you have become familiar with the material, we tell you to form fantastic figures, true mosaics. What it is about is that you combine figures as you want, even if it does not seem to make sense, so that they use the sense of sight.
